Introducing our member spotlight: a new feature that highlights select members making an impact within ASRM.
Michael K. Simoni, MD, FACOG, is a reproductive endocrinologist at RMA New Jersey.
Initially, Dr. Simoni joined ASRM to meet other like-minded individuals who were interested in making a difference in women’s reproductive health on the national level. Now, he finds ASRM to be a foundational resource to the field of reproductive medicine.
“Whether it be publications, societies, message boards, etc., [ASRM] provides a starting place for whatever we need,” stated Dr. Simoni. “Need guidance on a patient? Check out a practice committee bulletin. Need to find the email address of someone you saw at a conference? Look into their member registry. Have a particular interest and want to meet like-minded individuals? Sign up for a special interest group. There is always somewhere to look or someone to ask.”
Dr. Simoni remembers being pleasantly surprised by his first visit to ASRM’s Birmingham, Alabama, office as a member of the ASRM Today Podcast Task Force. The history, mementos, and staff made the experience truly memorable. Also a founder of the F&S On Air podcast, Dr. Simoni says he is always shocked by how welcoming ASRM is to new ideas, even from new members. This experience made him want to keep working with ASRM.
Dr. Simoni recommends that new ASRM members get involved by joining a special interest group with colleagues with similar interests, volunteering as a mentor in a pipeline program, or even attending a roundtable at the ASRM 2024 Scientific Congress & Expo. No matter your interests, there are many ways to get involved. His career advice: "Have a backup plan, and then another one. Just in case."
